True to its literal meaning in Korean, Ssam is simply a "wrap" of several leafy greens bundling bite-sized meat like galbi and/or rice with a small dollop of "SsamJang," a soybean paste condiment with a nutty, savory twang. Lucky Ssam Box features a core set of:
1 LB Salanova or Crown Lettuce
1 LB Green Dream Tomatoes
1 LB Korean Spinach
1 pack Sesame Leaf (50 ct)
1 KinderRadish Medley
2 bunch Tokyo Negi
Pair your Ssam with bite-size morsels of your favorite meat, seasoned or unseasoned, or with rice or your favorite grain! Don't forget to top it with Negi-lettuce salad!
Tokyo-Negi Lettuce Ssam Salad:
1 head Salanova Lettuce
1 stalk Tokyo Negi
1 tbsp White Vinegar
1 tbsp Sesame Oil
1/2 tbsp Seasoned Sesame Salt (optional)
1/2 tbsp GochuJang (optional)
1/2 tbsp Sugar (optional)
1. Cut the Negi lengthwise into fine slices (stripping with a fork multiple times works well too) and soak in water for 20-30 min. This makes the Negi milder.
2. Chop the lettuce as you would for salad and set aside.
3. Drain the Negi then add it with the lettuce into a large mixing bowl, and toss with vinegar, sesame oil, and the optional items, add salt/pepper to adjust to taste. Optional items infuse savory, sweet & mildly-spicy twang to the salad!
